
Guwahati, 03 March (HS): The Central Election Committee of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has announced the first list of 42 candidates for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2026, setting the stage for an intensified political contest in the state.
According to the list, Abdus Sobahan Ali Sarkar has been nominated from Gauripur, Markline Marak from Goalpara West (ST), Girish Baruah from Bongaigaon and Mahananda Sarkar from Barpeta (SC). Ramen Singh Rabha will contest from Boko-Chaygaon (ST), while Nandita Das has been fielded from Hajo-Sualkuchi (SC). Satyabrat Kalita will represent the party from Kamalpur and Mira Borthakur Goswami from Dispur.
The party has nominated Diganta Barman from Barkhetri, Ashok Kumar Sarma from Nalbari, Ratul Patuwary from Tihu, Binanda Kumar Saikia from Sipajhar and Bubul Das from Jagiroad (SC). Nurul Huda has been fielded from Rupahihat and Tanzil Hussain from Samaguri.
From Raha (SC), Utpal Bania has been selected, while Swapan Kar will contest from Lumding and Ripun Bora from Barchalla. Narayan Bhuyan has been nominated from Bihpuria. Raj Kumar Medak will contest from Jonai (ST), Durga Bhumij from Doomdooma and Prateek Bordoloi from Margherita. Pranjal Ghatowar has been fielded from Chabua-Lahowal and Dhruba Gogoi from Duliajan.
Pranati Phukan has been nominated from Naharkatia, Utpal Gogoi from Sonari, Ajoy Kumar Gogoi from Demow and Debabrata Saikia from Nazira. Indraneel Pegu will contest from Majuli (ST), while Pallabi Saikia Gogoi has been fielded from Teok and Gaurav Gogoi from Jorhat. Bitupan Saikia will contest from Golaghat.
Further, Raton Engti has been nominated from Bokajan (ST), Augustine Enghee from Rongkhang (ST), M. Santi Kumar Singha from Lakhipur, Ajit Singh from Udharbond and Dr. Amit Kumar Kalwar from Barkhola. Abhijit Paul has been fielded from Silchar, Aminul Haque Laskar from Sonai, Jakaria Ahmed from Karimganj North, Kartik Sena Sinha from Patharkandi and Suruchi Roy from Ram Krishna Nagar (SC).
With the announcement of the first list, the political atmosphere in Assam has gained momentum as parties prepare for a keen contest in the 2026 Assembly elections.----------
