Guwahati, 31 March (HS): Karnataka Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naser Hussain on Tuesday alleged that the BJP has failed to deliver on major promises in Assam and raises the issue of illegal infiltration only during elections for political gains.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Hussain claimed that despite repeated assurances, the state has not become flood-free, six communities are yet to receive ST status and the NRC has not been updated. He further alleged that the BJP has repeated the same promises made in 2016 and 2021 for the 2026 elections.
He stated that compared to the Congress-led UPA government, which deported a significant number of illegal foreigners, the BJP has not achieved even half that figure in the past decade. He accused the ruling party of using the infiltration issue to polarize voters rather than resolving it.
Hussain also alleged rising corruption, unemployment and divisive politics under the current government, while asserting that Assam’s long-standing communal harmony has been disrupted. He expressed confidence that people of the state are once inclined towards bringing Congress back to power.---------
