March (HS): A theft suspect who had fled police custody after a medical checkup
was apprehended following a brief confrontation in Jhansi on Sunday,
authorities said. The accused was injured by a gunshot during the exchange of
fire and has been admitted to a hospital, they said. According to Additional
SP, City Preeti Singh, the event occurred at midnight on March 28 while a
police squad from the city police station was performing a vehicle check in the
city. When police sought to halt a suspected bike rider near Nagariya Kuan, the
accused opened fire on the police team in an effort to flee, Singh added.
In
response, Nadeem, 19, a native of Madhya Pradesh's Datia, was shot in the leg
and then jailed, according to her. Police claimed Nadeem fled from the district
hospital on March 16 while getting a medical checkup following his detention in
connection with a theft case in the city police station area. According to
authorities, he is already facing more than a half-dozen criminal charges.
