Thiruvananthapuram,28 March (H.S.):Kerala is expected to witness isolated rainfall in the coming hours, offering slight relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions, according to weather officials. Alerts have been issued for districts including Kollam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kannur, Kasaragod, and Kozhikode, where sudden showers are likely.

In Kozhikode, strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph are also expected. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has further forecast that isolated parts of the state may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over the next two days, along with gusty winds blowing at 30–40 kmph.

Despite the rain forecast, high temperatures continue to grip the state. Palakkad recorded the highest temperature of the year on Friday, touching 38.9°C, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing summer heat.

In view of the soaring temperatures, the IMD has issued a yellow alert in 12 districts, including Kollam, Kottayam, and Palakkad, warning that temperatures could rise up to 3°C above normal levels. The State Disaster Management Authority has urged the public to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.

Authorities have advised people to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to prevent health issues such as sunstroke and dehydration. Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water even if they do not feel thirsty, and to avoid beverages like alcohol, coffee, and tea during the daytime.

Wearing light-coloured cotton clothing is recommended to stay cool. Special care has been advised for vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly. Additionally, employers have been urged to ensure adequate rest for outdoor workers and delivery personnel to reduce heat-related risks.
