Kolkata, 28 March (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal following incidents of violence reported during Ram Navami processions in the Jangipur area of Murshidabad district.

BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya raised questions over the policies of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while reacting to the incident in a post on X.

In his message, Malviya claimed that the violence took place during Ram Navami processions in Jangipur and also stated that the Murshidabad district has a Muslim population of over 70 percent.

The BJP leader alleged that under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, several border districts of West Bengal have allegedly turned into areas where Hindus feel unsafe. He further claimed that if the Trinamool Congress is not voted out of power in the 2026 Assembly elections, a situation may arise where Bengali Hindus could be forced to look for a new homeland.

He also said that Mamata Banerjee would not be allowed to succeed in what he described as her attempts to alter the character of West Bengal, and asserted that any move to undermine the state’s “glorious legacy” would be opposed.

There was no immediate official reaction from the Trinamool Congress regarding these allegations. Meanwhile, the local administration said that the situation in Jangipur is being closely monitored and necessary steps are being taken to maintain law and order.
