Tezpur, 23 March (HS): In a significant political development ahead of the Assam Legislative Assembly elections, APCC General Secretary Pallavi Saikia on Monday resigned from the Congress party and announced her decision to contest as an Independent candidate from the Tezpur constituency.

Saikia, who was a strong contender seeking the Congress ticket from Tezpur, expressed her dissatisfaction after not being nominated by the party. Following her resignation, she moved swiftly to stake her claim in the electoral battle by filing her nomination papers as an Independent candidate.

She has filed her nomination from Tezpur on Monday, marking a new political course as she enters the fray without party backing. The move is expected to influence the electoral dynamics in the Tezpur constituency, where the contest is already shaping up to be keenly fought.-----------
