Hooghly, 22 March (H.S.)
Train services were disrupted on Sunday morning between Hooghly and Bandel stations after a power failure in the overhead wires, causing inconvenience to passengers.
According to sources, train movement on both up and down lines remained suspended for nearly one and a half hours on the Howrah–Bardhaman, Howrah–Katwa and Bandel–Naihati sections. As a result, several trains were stranded at different stations, and ticket sales at Hooghly station were temporarily halted.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway said the disruption was caused due to a “power off” in the overhead equipment. Railway engineers restored the power supply promptly, following which train services resumed on both lines.
Passengers faced considerable inconvenience as many remained stranded at stations and inside trains for a prolonged period. Train movement on the Bandel–Naihati branch was also affected due to the disruption.
