Guwahati, 22 March (HS): MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed has launched a sharp attack on his political rivals, claiming that they lack the courage to contest against him in a friendly electoral battle.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Sherman Ali alleged that senior Congress leader Abdul Khaleque does not have the confidence to face him directly in the polls. He further claimed that Congress leader Debabrata Saikia had earlier threatened to quit the party to support him, allegedly to satisfy Gaurav Gogoi.
The MLA also stated that AJP leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi had opposed his candidature, adding that due to the roles played by Debabrata Saikia and Lurinjyoti Gogoi, he was denied a ticket from Raijor Dal in the Mandia constituency.
Announcing a major political shift, Sherman Ali Ahmed declared that he has resigned from Raijor Dal and will contest the upcoming Assam Assembly elections from Mandia as a candidate of the Trinamool Congress.----------
