Guwahati, 22 March (HS): The Assam BJP on Sunday asserted that the upcoming Assembly elections are a commitment to safeguard indigenous dominance against what it termed “silent aggression” by Bengali-origin Muslims.
Addressing a press conference at party headquarters, spokesperson Kishore Kumar Bhattacharya alleged that past Congress governments weakened Assamese Regionalism for vote-bank politics, leading to large-scale encroachment on land and institutions. He claimed that since 2016, the BJP-led government has taken steps to reclaim encroached land, recovering around 1.5 lakh bighas so far.
The party further set a target of reclaiming 5 lakh bighas of land in the next five years if re-elected. Bhattacharya also highlighted measures like granting classical language status to Assamese and expressed confidence that voters would back the BJP-led NDA in the April 9 elections to protect Assam’s cultural and territorial identity.-----------
