Guwahati, 22 March (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on announced that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will kick off its campaign for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 with a 40-km Roadshow in the Bhabanipur–Sarbhog assembly constituency on March 24.
Speaking to the media after an event, Sarma said the alliance aims to formally begin its campaign on March 24, just a day after the last date for filing nominations. He added that while the roadshow will mark the begining, regular election rallies are scheduled to commence from March 26. The CM was addressing media after a program.
The Chief Minister also addressed confusion regarding seat-sharing in the Chamaria constituency. He clarified that due to an error, the seat had initially been allotted to both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). He stated that the issue has now been resolved and BJP will not field a candidate from Chamaria, with its nominee instead contesting from Dalgaon.
Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam will be held on April 9, while counting of votes is scheduled for May 4. The BJP-led NDA is aiming to return to power for a third consecutive term in the state.----------
