Saharanpur,
21 March (HS): A 26-year-old man and an underage girl who went missing in
Muzaffarnagar district two days ago reportedly committed suicide by taking
poison in a hotel room in Nanauta, police said on Saturday. Police have named
the deceased as Ajmal. The girl's father, who filed a complaint against Ajmal
in Budhana on grounds of kidnapping his daughter, said in the FIR that she was
14, despite Ajmal's family's assertion that she was 18. Police in
Saharanpur stated they are checking the deceased girl's age. According to
authorities, Ajmal and the girl were both from the same community and lived in
a hamlet inside the Budhana police station borders in Muzaffarnagar.

SHO Naveen Kumar stated that Ajmal had booked into 'Hotel Blue One' two days
earlier and was communicating with his cousin Rizwan via video call. During one
such call, he allegedly exhibited Rizwan a packet containing a toxic chemical
and indicated his intention to terminate his life, despite the latter's
repeated requests to desist. Rizwan quickly called the family, who arrived at
the hotel on Friday evening to find Ajmal and the girl comatose. The two were
transported to a small health facility in Rampur Maniharan, where they were
directed to a larger medical facility in Shamli. Both were pronounced dead by
medics at a private hospital in Shamli during wee hours, according to
authorities. They stated that more investigations are underway.
