Guwahati, 21 March (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections 2026, announcing nominees for two constituencies.

According to an official statement issued by the party’s Central Election Committee, the list includes candidates for Dalgav and Sissibargaon Assembly seats. Krishna Saha has been fielded from the 51-Dalgav constituency, while Jibon Gogoi has been nominated from the 79-Sissibargaon seat.

The announcement is part of BJP’s ongoing exercise to finalise its candidates ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in the state. The party had earlier released its first list comprising 88 candidates, covering most of the constituencies.

The official statement, dated March 21, was issued from the BJP’s central office in New Delhi and bears the approval of the party’s central leadership. Earlier, on March 19, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had stated that the BJP’s Central Parliamentary Board had finalised candidates for 88 out of 89 Assembly constituencies, with the remaining Sissibargaon seat to be announced shortly.

Addressing the media, Dr Sarma said that the party has made conscious efforts to ensure balanced representation in candidate selection, including youth, women, Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), and members of the Nath community. He added that party workers across the state have expressed satisfaction with the list and are confident of a strong electoral performance.

The Chief Minister also stated that under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) arrangement, BJP has allotted 26 seats to its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), while 11 seats have been allocated to the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).---------
