Guwahati, 21 March (HS): Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervour across Assam on Saturday, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Following the announcement by the Central Hilal Committee, celebrations began across the state in line with the rest of the country. A festive atmosphere prevailed among the Muslim community, with people gathering in large numbers at Eidgahs and mosques to offer special congregational prayers.

Devotees exchanged greetings and conveyed messages of peace, unity and brotherhood on the occasion. Eid-ul-Fitr, observed on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar, signifies the conclusion of a month-long period of fasting and spiritual reflection.

It is noteworthy that countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other Gulf nations celebrated Eid on March 20 after the moon was not sighted on March 18. In India and Assam, however, the festival is being observed on March 21.

Elaborate arrangements were made for offering Eid prayers at various Eidgahs, which, along with mosques and residential areas, were decorated with lights and festive adornments. Streets and homes also reflected the celebratory spirit.

Amid the ongoing election season, district administrations and police authorities have taken special measures to ensure that the festivities pass off peacefully without any untoward incidents.----------
