Hooghly, 21 March (H.S.): Several posters opposing BJP candidate Dilip Singh were spotted in parts of Champdani assembly constituency in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, triggering a political slugfest ahead of the polls.

The posters, which appeared on Friday evening in different areas of the constituency, carried messages stating that Singh was an “outsider” and not acceptable to the people of Champdani.

In Sheoraphuli, a group of people was also seen raising slogans of “Dilip Singh go back” while holding BJP flags, according to local sources.

Reacting to the development, Singh on Saturday alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress was behind the posters.

“The Trinamool Congress has lost ground and is scared of defeat. Their leaders have resorted to such tactics out of fear. No matter what they do, BJP will form the government in West Bengal and will win Champdani by a huge margin,” he said.

Attempts to contact Trinamool Congress candidate Arindam Guin for comments on the issue were unsuccessful.
