Kottayam, 19 March (H.S.):The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revoked the suspension of Advocate Noble Mathew, who was earlier removed from the party’s primary membership over alleged anti-party activities. The decision was announced by Kerala BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar, following consideration of an apology submitted by Mathew.
Noble Mathew, a native of Kanjirappally, had previously served as the National Vice President of the BJP Minority Morcha and as the party’s Kottayam district president. His suspension came shortly after he publicly declared his intention to contest from the Kanjirappally constituency, a move seen as defying party discipline.
The controversy deepened when Mathew openly criticised the party leadership over the selection of Union Minister George Kurian as a candidate in the by-election. He alleged that the party was sidelining long-time grassroots workers in favour of “outsiders,” remarking that those who had toiled for the party at the ground level were being ignored in the candidate selection process.
In a strongly worded press conference, Mathew had also accused the BJP of internal factionalism and favouritism. He claimed that group rivalries and vested interests within the party were influencing key decisions, including candidate selection. Specifically, he alleged that the interests of factions led by senior leaders V. Muraleedharan and K. Surendran, along with the personal preferences of State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar, were shaping party affairs in Kerala.
However, with Mathew expressing regret over his remarks and actions, the party leadership appears to have taken a conciliatory approach. The revocation of his suspension is being viewed as an effort by the BJP to maintain internal unity ahead of crucial electoral battles in the state.
Party sources indicated that disciplinary issues had been resolved amicably, and Mathew is expected to continue his association with the BJP moving forward.
