Lucknow, 17 March (HS): State Minister (Independent Charge) for Backward

Classes Welfare and Disabled Empowerment, Narendra Kashyap, inspected the lab

and hostel under construction at Dr. Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation

University, Mohan Road, Lucknow, on Tuesday. During the inspection, the

minister discovered serious technical and quality-related flaws in the

construction work, ordering the work to be stopped immediately and expressing

strong displeasure with the executing agency and the concerned officials.

During the inspection, Minister Kashyap said that educational institutions are

not just buildings, but centers for shaping students' futures. Poor

construction at such institutions not only wastes resources but also directly

compromises the safety of students, which will not be tolerated under any

circumstances.

Minister Kashyap conducted a thorough on-site inspection of the quality of the

lab and hostel construction. To test the strength of the bricks, he struck two

bricks against each other, which immediately broke. Expressing his displeasure,

he stated that the use of such material was a grave negligence. He also closely

inspected the cement quality, brand, mix ratio, and construction process. The

inspection revealed that the pillars were not in accordance with standards,

their dimensions were inconsistent in many places, and the masonry of the walls

was weak and uneven. The Minister, describing these deficiencies as extremely

serious, reprimanded the officials present, stating that such negligence could

lead to major accidents in the future.

Minister Kashyap directed the university's Registrar, Rohit Mishra, to ensure

regular monitoring of the quality of construction work and to use only

certified and high-quality materials. He also directed the executing agency to

immediately issue a notice seeking clarification and ensure corrective action

within the stipulated timeframe.

Minister Kashyap issued a stern warning that if the quality of work does not

improve as expected, the contractor and agency concerned will be blacklisted

and replaced, and punitive action will be taken against them. He also directed

that in future, officials who compromise on quality in any construction work

should be held accountable and strict action should be taken against them. He

directed that construction sites be regularly inspected by senior officials,

progress reports be submitted periodically, and all work be completed to the

prescribed standards and technical quality, so that students can be provided

with a safe, modern, and convenient educational environment.
