17 March (HS): The City and District Congress Committee members staged a

protest at Vikas Bhawan on Tuesday afternoon against the anti-labour BJP

governments at the Centre and state over the pending payments of labourers working

under MGNREGA in Uttar Pradesh.

Under the

leadership of City President Fuzail Hashmi, Congress workers reached Vikas

Bhawan in the afternoon carrying placards related to MGNREGA payments and

raised slogans against the Government. The Congress workers were demanding the

payment of Rs.2,000

crore pending wages of MGNREGA labourers for 75 days and the honorarium of 40

thousand contractual employment assistants pending for the last eight months. They said

that if the payment is not made soon, the Congress party will be forced to

launch an agitation. Later,

regarding the said demands, a memorandum addressed to the Governor was

submitted to DPRO Dwivedi in the absence of the CDO.
