Kochi, 17 March (H.S.):In a significant political development ahead of the upcoming elections in Kerala, the Twenty20 party has announced a slate of candidates drawn from the Malayalam film industry, signalling a strategic attempt to blend public appeal with grassroots politics.

Actor Anjali Nair has been fielded from Tripunithura, while fellow actor Veena Nair will contest from Ettumanoor. In Perumbavoor, actor Lakshmipriya has been named the party’s candidate. The announcements were made by Twenty20 president Sabu M. Jacob, who clarified that he himself will not be contesting from Tripunithura or any other constituency in the state.

Speaking after her nomination, Anjali Nair said that although she has participated in several public events alongside political figures, this marks her first direct entry into electoral politics. She emphasised that she maintains cordial relationships across party lines and described her candidature as a step inspired by her late father’s wish to see her serve in public life. “I have no prior political background, but I believe in fulfilling my father’s dream,” she said, adding that her husband has been supportive of her decision.

Outlining her vision, Anjali Nair said she aims to be accessible and approachable to the people of Tripunithura. “I want to be like a daughter to every household. People should feel free to share their concerns with me, and I will do my best to address them,” she stated.

Meanwhile, actor Akhil Marar has been fielded as the Twenty20 candidate from Thrikkakara, further underlining the party’s focus on leveraging popular personalities to strengthen its electoral prospects.

The move is seen as an effort by Twenty20 to expand its influence by tapping into the popularity and public connect of film actors, as Kerala heads toward a closely watched electoral contest.
