Mumbai, 17 Mar (HS): Maharashtra Government will enforce ‘Zero Tolerance’

policy against narcotic drugs. Stern action including seizure of property will

be implemented against those involved in dug trafficking, said Chief Minister

Devendra Fadnavis in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

Fadnavis

was replying to the issue raised by Pravin Datke relating to action against

drug traffickers in Nagpur’s Motibag area. Vikas Thakre, Vikram Pachpute and Dr

Nitin Raut also raised supplementary questions on the issue.

Fadnavis

said offences under various sections of the Social Crime Control Act 1999 have

been registered and the process of issuing charge sheets against them was in

progress. Fadnavis also said that stern action will be initiated against

illegal constructions. In case of negligence or delay, action against the

police officers concerned will also be initiated, he added. Through extensive

campaigning such crimes will be brought under control.

Nagpur

Police, under ‘Operation Thunder’ detected 907 such cases and seized about 1254

kg of marijuana worth about Rs 10 crore. An Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTS)

has been formed on August 31, 2023 and new posts have been created at police

stations to strengthen the mission against narcotic drugs. Besides control

links relating to drugs trafficking are also being investigated. The State

Government has proposed to the Centre to reduce the age from 18 to 16 for legal

action in such cases, Fadnavis informed the House.
