Kolkata, 17 March (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the ruling All India Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, alleging deterioration in law and order and accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of making provocative statements.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s Salt Lake office, BJP national spokesperson and former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh claimed that the state government has failed in ensuring safety and security of citizens, particularly women. She also alleged that certain remarks by TMC leaders were divisive and hurt Bengal’s cultural ethos.
Ghosh raised the issue of pending dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees, alleging that the government approached the Supreme Court of India to avoid payments despite a ruling in favour of employees.
She further accused the TMC government of corruption and claimed that lack of industrial growth had forced many youths to migrate in search of jobs.
Backing recent administrative changes, Ghosh said the Election Commission of India has acted within its constitutional mandate under Article 324 to ensure free and fair elections, including transferring officials allegedly linked to lapses in law and order.
She alleged that people in the state were living in fear under the current regime and expressed confidence that voters would bring about a change in the upcoming Assembly elections.
