
Delhi/Guwahati, 15 March (H.S.): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple healthcare infrastructure projects worth ₹2,092 crore during his visit to Assam, strengthening the state’s medical education and public health facilities.
Among the key projects inaugurated was the Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital in Guwahati, constructed at a cost of ₹675 crore. The facility is expected to enhance access to advanced medical treatment and expand medical education capacity in the region.
Shah also virtually inaugurated two cancer care centres at Golaghat and Tinsukia, developed under the Assam Cancer Care Foundation at a cost of ₹135 crore each. These centres are aimed at improving early diagnosis and treatment facilities for cancer patients in Upper Assam.
In addition, foundation stones were laid for super-speciality blocks at three major government medical colleges:

Diphu Medical College and Hospital (₹220 crore)

Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (₹310 crore)

Barpeta Medical College and Hospital (₹284 crore)
The Union Minister also laid the foundation for the proposed Swasthya Bhawan in Guwahati, estimated at ₹218 crore, and a new district hospital at Abhayapuri costing ₹115 crore.
Officials said the projects are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery systems in the Northeast and improve access to specialised treatment.
Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati on Saturday on a two-day visit, marking his fourth visit to the state in the last four months, reflecting the Centre’s continued focus on infrastructure and development projects in the region.
