New Delhi, 14 March (H.S.):

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will descend upon West Bengal on Saturday to inaugurate an array of transformative development projects valued at approximately ₹18,680 crore, intensifying the electoral fervor ahead of the state's assembly polls slated for April-May. This high-profile visit, poised to galvanize the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) campaign machinery, will culminate in a resounding address at Kolkata's historic Brigade Parade Ground, capping the party's ambitious statewide 'Parivartan Yatra'.

The yatra, which will span nearly 5,000 km across 237 assembly constituencies since its launch on March 1, will underscore BJP's strategic mobilization to challenge the incumbent Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Amid a charged political landscape, Modi's itinerary will spotlight major infrastructure milestones, including over 420 km of National Highway projects worth around ₹16,990 crore, alongside shipping and port developments to bolster maritime connectivity. He will also flag off the Purulia-Anand Vihar Terminal (Delhi) Express and inaugurate six redeveloped stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, enhancing rail accessibility across the state.

These unveilings will signal a fervent push for economic revitalization, as BJP aims to unseat TMC through a nuanced, Bengal-centric electoral strategy following its notable strides in 2019 and 2021.The visit unfolds against the backdrop of electoral rolls revisions via the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which will have pruned 63.66 lakh names—about 8.3% of the electorate—reducing Bengal's voter tally from 7.66 crore to over 7.04 crore, with over 60 lakh cases pending adjudication.
