New Delhi, 10 March (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu asserted Tuesday that direct taxes play a pivotal role in accelerating national development, enabling investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare as a stable revenue stream.
Addressing officer trainees of the 79th batch of the Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) at Rashtrapati Bhavan, she emphasized that a fair and transparent tax regime promotes equity and lays a robust foundation for inclusive, sustainable growth.
Beyond Collection: Strategic Mandate
President Murmu clarified that IRS duties extend far beyond revenue gathering, equipping officers to dissect complex financial transactions, detect cross-border illicit flows, and decode intricate corporate structures—making them vital allies in Viksit Bharat's journey.
Prudence and Balance
She urged young officers to exercise prudence in conduct and decisions, harmonizing enforcement with facilitation, authority with humility, and technical prowess with human empathy. Authority must be wielded with restraint and unwavering fidelity to constitutional values, she advised.
The trainees, undergoing induction at the National Academy of Direct Taxes in Nagpur, include two from Bhutan's Royal Bhutan Service.
