
Mumbai, 10 Mar (HS): Jishnu Dev Varma took oath as 22nd
Governor of Maharashtra on Tuesday. The oath was administered by Chief Justice
of Bombay High Court Justice Chandrashekhar. He replaced Acharya Devvrat,
Governor of Gujarat who was holding additional charge after C P Radhakrishnan
was elected the Vice-President of India.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar congratulated Varma after taking
oath.

Dev Varma’s wife Sudha Dev Varma and other family members, Legislative Council
Chairman Prof Ram Shinde, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar former Chief Minister
Sushil Kumar Shinde, Deputy Chairperson Dr Neelam Guorhe, ministers Chhagan
Bhujbal, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Chandrakant Patil, Narhari Zirwal, Mumbai’s
Mayor Ritu Tawde, IGP Sadanand Date and other senior officers were present.
At
the outset Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal read out the notification issued by
President Droupadi Murmu about Varma’s appointment.
Varma
was appointed Governor of Telangana on 31 July 2024. Earlier he was the Deputy Chief
Minister of Tripura from 1018 to 2023. An ardent lover of modern art, painting
and sculpture Varma was Tripura Region Convenor of Indian National Trust for
Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH). He is an acclaimed poet and writer.
After
the oath taking ceremony a guard of honour was offered by Navy and Police Band
