Kolkata, 09 February (H.S.):

Police have initiated an investigation into allegations of sexual assault involving a minor girl in the Keshiary police station area of Paschim Medinipur district. The case came to light after the girl was found to be pregnant. Following a complaint lodged by the family, one accused has been taken into custody, while efforts are underway to trace another suspect.

According to the complaint, the family alleged that the minor had been subjected to repeated abuse over the past few months by two youths from the neighbourhood. After the family became aware of the pregnancy, they approached the police and filed a written complaint on Sunday evening.

Acting promptly, Keshiary police detained one of the accused later that night. The accused was produced before the Kharagpur Sub-Divisional Court on Monday, and police sought custody for further questioning.

Police officials said searches are ongoing to locate the second accused, who is currently absconding. Authorities have stated that the investigation is being conducted in accordance with legal procedures, with due sensitivity, and assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
