The Bagdogra Police Station of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police on Monday seized a consignment of foreign cigarettes worth around ₹20 lakh that was being transported from Assam to Bihar. A truck used for the alleged smuggling was also confiscated, and two persons were arrested in connection with the case.

The arrested persons have been identified as truck driver Chumir Ali and Moiuddin, both residents of Assam, police said.

According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, officers intercepted a suspicious truck near the Jungli Baba Temple Road on Monday afternoon. During a search of the vehicle, several cartons of foreign cigarettes were recovered. The driver reportedly failed to produce valid documents for the consignment.

Following this, the police seized the truck and arrested the two accused. A case has been registered at Bagdogra Police Station under relevant sections related to illegal trafficking of foreign cigarettes, and further investigation into the matter is underway, officials added.
