Seychelles President Honors Gandhi at Raj Ghat, Deepens Ties with Modi on Golden Jubilee

New Delhi, 09 February (H.S.): Seychelles Republic President Dr. Patrick Herminie paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat on Monday before holding bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House, commemorating 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Arriving ahead of his meeting with PM Modi, President Herminie laid wreath at the Father of the Nation's samadhi, affirming that Gandhi's principles of peace, non-violence, and truth remain profoundly relevant today.

The leaders reviewed friendship spanning half a century, focusing on bilateral cooperation, maritime security, and regional development. Earlier Monday morning, Herminie met External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, advancing Vision Mahasagar for economic prosperity and security among maritime neighbors.

On Sunday, Herminie conferred with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai, exploring port-led development, coastal management, and Maharashtra-Seychelles collaboration opportunities.

Undertaking his first India visit since assuming office—upon PM Modi's invitation—Herminie’s five-day state tour (February 5-10) marks the golden jubilee of diplomatic ties. He is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu during the visit.
