Bankura, 09 February (H.S.) :
The body of a migrant labourer was recovered under mysterious circumstances from his residence in Bankura district of West Bengal, triggering widespread tension and speculation in the area. The deceased was found lying on the floor of his house with the body partially covered, while multiple injury marks were reportedly detected on his head. Family members have alleged that the youth was murdered.
Police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination, while an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
The deceased has been identified as Sandip Mudi (26), a resident of Birgram village under the Dahala area of Khatra block. Sandip used to work as a labourer in another state and had returned home a few days ago. On Saturday, he was alone at home as his parents had gone to a relative’s house.
According to sources, when Sandip’s parents failed to contact him over the phone since Sunday morning, they grew worried and asked neighbours to check on him. The neighbours went to the house and repeatedly called out, but received no response.
Subsequently, they climbed onto the roof using a ladder and entered the house through the staircase. The main door was found locked from inside. On peeping into the room, they were shocked to find Sandip lying on the floor in a blood-soaked condition, with his body covered.
On receiving information, police from Khatra Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued Sandip, taking him to Khatra Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
An unnatural death case has been registered, and police have begun a detailed probe to determine whether the youth was murdered and, if so, who may be behind the crime and how the perpetrators gained entry into the house.
