New Delhi, 07 February (H.S.):
The Delhi High Court has issued an injunction safeguarding Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi's personality rights against unauthorized exploitation. Justice Tusshar Rao Gadela's bench prohibited the use of any content linked to Oberoi's identity, name, image, or voice without his explicit permission.
Vivek Oberoi accused unidentified individuals of misappropriating his identity, name, image, and voice without consent. Represented by advocate Sana Raees Khan, the petition highlighted the creation of fake social media accounts using Oberoi's name and photos to sell products illicitly.
The suit detailed the generation of videos and images via artificial intelligence and deepfake technology, superimposing Oberoi's face onto objectionable and misleading content. It asserted Oberoi's exclusive right to the commercial exploitation of his name, image, identity, and persona, barring any unauthorized use in business or other form.
The High Court has previously protected the personality rights of prominent figures including Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, actors Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn, actress and MP Jaya Bachchan, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Telugu actor Nagarjuna, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, and producer Karan Johar by similarly restraining unauthorized usage.
