New Delhi, 06 February (H.S.): Indian stock markets closed in positive territory on Friday, the final trading day of the week, with both benchmark indices overcoming significant volatility to end higher.The BSE Sensex jumped 266.47 points to settle at 83,580.40, while the NSE Nifty climbed 50.90 points to close at 25,693.70.

At the close of trading, the Bombay Stock Exchange's (BSE) Sensex rose 266.47 points, or 0.32 percent, to end at 83,580.40. Meanwhile, the National Stock Exchange's (NSE) Nifty gained 50.90 points, or 0.20 percent, settling at 25,693.70.

During today's trading session, the sharpest gains were seen in ITC shares, which surged 5.09 percent to close higher, followed by Kotak Bank shares rising 3.35 percent. Hindustan Unilever shares advanced 2.63 percent, while Bharti Airtel shares gained 2.32 percent. Bajaj Finserv strengthened by 1.76 percent, and Power Grid recorded a 1.26 percent increase.

On the flip side, TCS shares saw the biggest decline of 1.69 percent, matched by a 1.69 percent drop in Tech Mahindra shares. Adani Ports fell 1.32 percent, Asian Paints weakened by 1.21 percent, and Eternal (Zomato) declined 1.20 percent.

Additionally, the Indian rupee depreciated 36 paise against the US dollar to close provisionally at 90.70.The previous day, on Thursday, the BSE Sensex benchmark had slumped 503 points, or 0.60 percent, to close at 83,313, while the NSE Nifty slipped 113 points, or 0.52 percent, to end at 25,642.
