Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu to Remain Pedestrian Zone Till March 7

Guwahati, 28 February (HS): In view of the rising number of visitors and increasing public demand, the Guwahati City Police along with the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration, Kamrup District Administration and Kamrup Police have jointly decided to continue restricting vehicular movement on the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati, by maintaining it as a pedestrian zone from March 1 to March 7, 2026.

According to an official press release, the decision has been taken considering the substantial footfall witnessed on the bridge over the past few days. Authorities stated that the arrangement aims to ensure public safety and facilitate smooth movement of pedestrians during the period.

The bridge will be reopened for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, light motor vehicles (LMVs), SUVs and similar vehicles from March 8, 2026. However, keeping in view the increasing pedestrian presence and traffic pressure on both ends of the bridge, buses and trucks will continue to remain barred from plying over the bridge until further communication from the authorities.----------
