Guwahati, 28 February (HS): The second phase of the Congress party’s ‘Samay Poribortonor Yatra', led by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi, entered Sivasagar district on Saturday, beginning from Dimow and proceeding towards Athabari, Bakata and Sivasagar amid enthusiastic public response.
Addressing gatherings during the yatra, Gogoi alleged that the BJP government has failed to take meaningful steps for the development of Zubeen Kshetra, claiming that even its maintenance has been neglected. He accused the government of focusing on publicity rather than preserving cultural landmarks.
The yatra resonated across Dimow and Sivasagar with the slogan-song “Alikati jali dim, Barpira pari dim, eibar Congress sarkar ani dim.” The Congress delegation also offered prayers at Sankardev Namghar in Panibil Gomothagaon.
Gogoi further criticised the state government over issues including closure of schools, alleged rise in liquor outlets and drugs and distribution of funds to youths. He asserted that people now seek change and assured that Congress would revise welfare policies to ensure direct benefits to eligible women if voted to power.
Several senior Congress leaders accompanied the APCC chief. The yatra is scheduled to continue in Naharkatia and Duliajan.--------
