Guwahati, 28 February (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ was ceremonially launched on Saturday from the historic Gupteshwar Temple premises in Dhekiajuli, a site deeply associated with the legacy of India’s freedom struggle. The yatra commenced at 10 am in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP President Dilip Saikia.
Dhekiajuli holds special historical significance as several freedom fighters laid down their lives here during the Quit India Movement of 1942 while participating in the anti-British mass uprising. Party leaders described the launch of the yatra from this sacred land as symbolic of the BJP’s commitment to shaping Assam’s future, inspired by the sacrifices of the martyrs.
In a statement, senior state BJP spokesperson Manas Sarania said that the ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ is not merely a political programme but an outreach initiative aimed at strengthening public trust and reaffirming the party’s commitment to development. The event witnessed a large turnout, with enthusiastic participation from party workers and supporters.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the government’s focus on comprehensive development, infrastructure strengthening, industrial growth, employment generation and welfare measures for all sections of society. He called upon people to unite in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” and a “Viksit Assam.”
Sarania further stated that the overwhelming public response at Dhekiajuli reflected strong confidence in the BJP’s leadership and its resolve to build a secure, strong and developed Assam. He added that the yatra would carry the message of development across the state and further consolidate public support in the days ahead.
From Gupteshwar Temple, the yatra is scheduled to pass through Borsola, Tezpur, Naduar and Rangapara. Notably, Tezpur, known as a prominent centre of literature, music and theatre in Assam, has been associated with eminent cultural figures such as Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Rabha, Phani Sarma and Padmanath Gohain Baruah, who made significant contributions to the state’s literary and cultural heritage.-----------
