Kolkata, 28 February (H.S.) :

In a major administrative overhaul, the West Bengal government has transferred several senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to streamline law enforcement and enhance the state's technical capabilities. According to a notification issued by the Home and Hill Affairs Department (Police Service Cell), Ashok Prasad has been designated as the new Additional Director General (ADG) of the Cyber Cell. This strategic appointment is viewed as a high-priority move to address the increasing complexity of digital crimes and reinforce the state’s cybersecurity infrastructure.

The reshuffle also involves significant transitions at the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Joint Commissioner levels. Syed Waquar Raza, Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam, and Nimbalkar Santosh Uttamrao have been reassigned to lead the Murshidabad, Raiganj, and Jalpaiguri ranges respectively. Simultaneously, K. Sabari Rajkumar, who was serving as the Joint Commissioner of Police in the Howrah Commissionerate, has been moved to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as a DIG. In a reciprocal transition, Gourav Lal has been shifted from his post as DIG CID to take over Rajkumar’s previous responsibilities as the Joint Commissioner of Police in Howrah.

Adjustments were further extended to the state's specialized battalions and district administrative wings. Within the State Armed Police (SAP), Praveen Prakash has been moved from the 6th Battalion to serve as the Commanding Officer of the SSF Battalion in Barrackpore, while Sandip Mondal has transitioned from the 9th Battalion to lead the 7th Battalion. Additionally, Shovan Adhikari, formerly the Additional SP (DIB) for the Baruipur Police District, has been transferred to the Telecommunications Branch as an Additional SP. These changes, prompted by administrative necessity and the need for improved operational synergy, reflect the government's ongoing efforts to optimize police efficiency across diverse geographical ranges and specialized units.
