Unnao,

24 Feb (HS): A 45-year-old father and his adolescent daughter reportedly

committed suicide by jumping in front of a goods train on the Kanpur-Lucknow

railway line in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district, police said on Tuesday. The

event occurred on Monday night on the down track near the Sahajani crossing in

the Shuklaganj area, before of the Gangaghat railway station, according to the

Inspector in Charge of Gangaghat Police Station. According to early evidence,

Yash Gupta (45) and his 14-year-old daughter ran onto the track as a cargo

train approached, killing them on the spot, he added. When the Railway

Protection Force (RPF) and local police received the information, they raced to

the location. For safety considerations, movement on the down track was

temporarily suspended, causing a minor disruption in rail traffic.

According

to authorities, the incident had a short-term impact on the Lucknow-bound Tejas

Express and Gomti Express. According to police, a white automobile with a

Kanpur plate number was discovered parked some 200 metres away from the scene

near Dewarakala village. Documents and a mobile phone found in the car

indicated that it belonged to Yash Gupta. The family members were notified

based on the car registration information and an inquiry was launched,

according to police.

Gupta's

wife identified the dead. The specific cause for the apparent suicide has still

to be determined, according to the SHO, who also stated that the remains have

been submitted for postmortem investigation. Officials added that further

action will be taken based on family member comments and other information.
