Chennai, 23 February (H.S.) : The KG Chavadi police have successfully arrested three men from Kerala in connection with a daring highway robbery that took place on the Salem-Cochin Highway last week.
The suspects, identified as N. Nithin, S. Sreekumar, and K. Suthish, all hailing from Kasaragod, were apprehended by a special police team following an intensive investigation. During the arrest, authorities seized Rs 21,000 in cash and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) that was allegedly used to kidnap and rob a goldsmith on February 19.
The victim, M. Lukman from Pattambi, was returning home on his two-wheeler after selling 200 grams of gold bars in Coimbatore. According to police reports, the gang followed him and knocked him down near the Walayar check post. At knifepoint, they forced him into their SUV while other members of the gang fled with his motorcycle, which contained cash hidden in a secret compartment.
Following the victim's complaint, the KG Chavadi police tracked the suspects to Kasaragod and executed the arrests with the help of local intelligence.
Latest updates from the investigative team suggest that the arrested individuals are part of a larger network involved in targeting merchants traveling between Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The police are currently interrogating the trio to identify other accomplices and recover the remaining stolen property.
Security has been tightened along the highway stretches near the border to prevent similar incidents. Authorities have urged traders carrying large sums of cash or valuables to inform the local police or use secure transport methods to ensure their safety.
