Rajamahendravaram, 23 February (HS): Four persons died within 48 hours after allegedly consuming adulterated milk supplied by an unauthorised vendor in East Godavari district, police said on Monday.
According to officials, two persons died on Sunday and two others succumbed on Monday. Preliminary investigation suggests that the contaminated milk may have caused renal failure, leading to sudden urinary blockage and death.
All four victims had procured milk from the same local vendor, who supplied it to households in Rajamahendravaram. Police said the vendor sourced milk from nearly 40 cattle and local farmers before distributing it to consumers.
Food Safety officials have collected milk samples and sent them to laboratories for testing. Multiple teams are conducting field inspections and medical surveillance in the affected neighbourhoods.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation at a meeting on Monday following the reported deaths. District officials briefed him on medical assistance being provided and the arrangements made, including field-level camps and rapid test medical camps in the localities concerned.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that milk had been supplied to 106 households and that samples were collected from 75 persons. He directed officials to ensure proper medical care for those under treatment and ordered strict action against the vendor involved.
