Kolkata, 23 February (H.S.): A case of sexual assault of a minor girl has come to light in Sarshuna area of South Kolkata. The police arrested the accused landlord on Monday.

The victim is a 16-year-old girl who lives with her parents in a rented house in SS Township, Sarshuna, South Kolkata. The landlord was also a close friend of the girl's father, making his visits to the house normal.

According to police sources, the accused would come to the house when the girl was alone. He would show her pornographic videos and sexually assault her. This continued for several days, but due to his closeness to the family, no one suspected anything.

When the incident came to light, the victim's family filed a written complaint at the Sarshuna police station. Police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the POCSO Act.

A senior Kolkata Police official said that the victim's statement has been recorded and the investigation is ongoing. The accused will be produced in court later, where the police will seek his custody for further interrogation.
