Chennai, 23 February (H.S.) : The final electoral roll for the 2026 Special Intensive Revision was officially released on Monday by Archana Patnaik, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tamil Nadu. According to the latest data, the state now has a total of 5,67,07,380 eligible electors.
The gender distribution of the electorate shows a higher number of women voters, totaling 2,89,60,838, while the number of men voters stands at 2,77,38,925. This comprehensive update follows a rigorous period of claims and objections that took place between December 19, 2025, and January 30, 2026, during which 34.75 lakh applications were processed through both online and offline channels.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) resulted in the addition of 27.53 lakh new eligible electors across the state. Interestingly, the process also involved the deletion of approximately 97.37 lakh names from the previous rolls, primarily due to shifts in urban populations and the removal of ineligible entries.
Before this revision, the total electorate had dipped significantly from 6.41 crore to 5.43 crore, but the subsequent inclusions have bolstered the final figures. A notable segment of the current roll includes 12.51 lakh first-time voters in the 18-19 age group, reflecting a significant youth participation in the upcoming electoral process.
Authorities in Chennai emphasized that the bulk of the deletions occurred in urban constituencies as part of an effort to maintain a clean and accurate database. During the revision period, roughly 4.23 lakh ineligible electors were removed based on verified objections.
The CEO confirmed that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure transparency and inclusivity in the final roll. Citizens are encouraged to verify their names on the official portal to ensure their participation in the upcoming democratic exercise.
This final roll will serve as the definitive list for all upcoming administrative and electoral proceedings in the state for the year 2026.
