23 Feb (HS): Two individuals have been detained in connection with an alleged

attack on BJP MLA Rajiv Tarara in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district, police said

Monday. Three policemen, including a senior sub-inspector, have been suspended

in connection with the incident, they said. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

MLA from Dhanaura was on his way from Mandi Dhanaura to Amroha to attend a

wedding when the event happened near a railway crossing on Sunday night.

According to authorities, a fast motorbike struck the MLA's car from behind.

When Tarara's security guard questioned the riders, they allegedly threw stones

at the car. According to police, the suspects reportedly harassed and

manhandled the MLA's security guard and driver, as well as threatened them.

quickly notified the local police station, but a team arrived around 30 minutes

later, according to authorities. The two accused were captured on the scene,

while the others fled. An FIR has been filed, and two suspects, Rohit of

Shahbazpur Madiya village and Pradeep of Nanaur Mafi village, have been

detained. Officials claimed that efforts are ongoing to track down the

remaining perpetrators.

Kumar Tyagi, Circle Officer for Hasanpur, stated that the situation was brought

under control following police intervention. Taking the matter seriously, the

superintendent of police (SP) dismissed the acting station in-charge, Senior

Sub-Inspector Satish Kumar, Mandi Dhanaura town outpost in-charge Jugal

Kishore, and constable Ankush Malik, for alleged incompetence. A departmental

investigation has been launched against them. Moradabad Range Deputy Inspector

General Muniraj talked with the MLA and promised him that stern action will be

taken in the situation.
