Darrang (Assam), 22 February (HS): Sensation gripped the Silapathar area of Darrang district after the body of a youth was recovered from a pond on Sunday.

According to police, a team rushed to the spot after receiving information that a body was seen floating in a pond at Baligaon under Silapathar Police Station. The deceased has been identified as Jayanta Debnath (28), a resident of No. 1 Shilgaon.

Police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital for post-mortem examination. Local residents have alleged that the youth may have been murdered. A case has been registered in connection with the incident and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of death.-----------
