Chennai, 22 February (H.S.) : The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) witnessed a significant development on Sunday during a workers' meeting where cadres formally proposed that party president and actor Vijay should contest the upcoming 2026 Assembly election from the Perambur constituency.

The resolution was introduced by Aadhav Arjuna, the TVK general secretary for election campaign management, who highlighted the strategic importance of the area. Arjuna reminded the gathering of Vijay's previous statement regarding his preference to contest from a region lacking in development, asserting that Perambur fits this criteria perfectly.

The proposal received strong backing from the party’s general secretary, N Anand, who seconded the resolution while praising the organizational strength of the constituency. Anand noted that Perambur boasts a highly structured grassroots network with approximately 40,000 members and over 1,800 office-bearers. While there has been prior speculation about Vijay potentially contesting from other areas like Velachery, Virugambakkam, or Tiruchy East, this formal move has now placed Perambur at the forefront of the party's electoral strategy.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Anand assured the cadres that their sentiments and the formal resolution would be conveyed directly to the party president for a final decision. He further emphasized that similar levels of enthusiasm are being observed across all 234 Assembly constituencies in the state.

The meeting concluded with party leaders affirming that the structured work being done at the local level would be the cornerstone of their campaign as they prepare for the high-stakes electoral battle ahead.
