Chennai, 18 February (H.S.) : Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder and President Thol Thirumavalavan has extended his strong support to the suggestion that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin should lead the national opposition INDIA bloc.
This statement comes following a proposal by senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, who recently advocated for the DMK chief to take on a more prominent coordinating role at the national level to strengthen the alliance against the BJP-led Union government.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Thirumavalavan emphasized that Chief Minister Stalin possesses the necessary political maturity and experience to unite diverse regional parties across the country. He noted that Stalin’s leadership in Tamil Nadu has already demonstrated a successful model of coalition politics, where various ideologies are brought together under a common minimum program.
According to the VCK chief, the current political landscape requires a leader who can maintain harmony among allies while effectively challenging the centralizing tendencies of the current regime.
Thirumavalavan further stated that Stalin’s advocacy for state autonomy and federalism aligns perfectly with the core objectives of the INDIA alliance. He highlighted that the Chief Minister has been a consistent voice for the rights of the states and the marginalized sections of society, making him an ideal candidate to steer the national front.
While the final decision regarding the leadership structure remains with the alliance's top committee, the VCK's endorsement signals a growing consensus among regional partners to see a Southern leader take a more decisive role in national politics ahead of the upcoming electoral challenges.
