Chennai, 18 February (H.S.) : Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader and Chidambaram Member of Parliament V Thirumavalavan has defended the Congress party's demand for a share in the government if the DMK-led alliance wins the upcoming assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters in Tiruchi on Wednesday, he stated that such a request is neither unusual nor unreasonable within a coalition framework. He emphasized that discussions and negotiations are a natural part of alliance politics during the election season and that these matters are typically resolved through dialogue between the concerned parties.
The VCK leader highlighted that the Congress, as a long-standing ally, has every right to raise such a request after working for the success of the DMK for many years. Although Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin previously indicated that sharing power in the state was not feasible under the current political framework.
Thirumavalavan reiterated that final decisions would only be determined through detailed talks. He noted that his party played a role in forming the alliance and remains committed to protecting its unity, suggesting there is no need for unnecessary pressure regarding these administrative demands.
In addition to his comments on seat sharing, Thirumavalavan expressed support for the suggestion that Chief Minister Stalin should be appointed as the coordinator of the INDIA bloc at the national level. As the assembly elections approach, negotiations among partners appear to be intensifying.
However, the VCK chief's remarks signal a clear attempt to maintain a united front within the DMK-led alliance while acknowledging the legitimate aspirations of its constituent members.
