Thiruvananthapuram, 15 Feb (H.S.):Kerala will bid a solemn and heartfelt farewell on Sunday to ten-month-old Alin Sherin Abraham, who etched her name in history as the youngest organ donor in the State after saving the lives of five children.
Alin’s funeral will be held with official honours at 3.30 p.m. at Nedungadappally St. Thomas CSI Church in Pathanamthitta district. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had announced that the infant would be accorded state honours in recognition of her family’s extraordinary decision to donate her organs.
The child, who was undergoing treatment following a road accident in Kottayam on February 5, was declared brain dead earlier this week. In a remarkable act of courage and compassion amid unimaginable grief, her parents consented to donate her organs, giving a new lease of life to five ailing children.
Alin was the daughter of Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John of Mallappally in Pathanamthitta. After post-mortem procedures were completed, her body was shifted to a private hospital in Mallappally. Prayers began at the hospital chapel at 7 a.m. on Sunday, followed by a brief public viewing that allowed relatives, well-wishers and members of the public to pay their final respects. Many gathered in large numbers to honour the infant whose final act became a symbol of hope.
Following the public homage at the hospital, the body was taken to her residence in Nedungadappally before the funeral service at the church.
Earlier, Alin was given a guard of honour at Amrita Hospital in Kochi before her mortal remains were transported home — a rare tribute underscoring the significance of her donation.
Doctors confirmed that her liver, two kidneys, heart valve, and two corneas were successfully retrieved for transplantation. These organs have brought renewed hope and life to five young recipients across the State.
Alin’s story has moved Kerala deeply, highlighting the transformative power of organ donation and the profound humanity displayed by a grieving family.
