Kolkata, 07 January (H.S.) : As part of the voter list revision process, the Election Commission has asked West Bengal government employees to submit a declaration confirming that their names are not enrolled in the electoral rolls at more than one location. The poll panel has issued a prescribed format for the declaration, which all state employees are required to fill out.

The Commission has made it clear that if any employee is found to be registered as a voter at two different places, the responsibility will lie with the individual concerned. In such cases, the employee will have to approach the Booth Level Officer and ensure that their name is deleted from one of the electoral rolls.

Under the declaration, employees must disclose their current voter status in West Bengal and state whether they are registered as voters at any other location. If a change in residence has led to a change in polling station, details of the same must also be provided.

In cases where duplicate enrolment exists, employees are required to mention whether they have already applied for deletion of their name from one of the locations. The Election Commission has copies of the declaration format, which will be collected and verified. There are approximately 10 lakh government employees in the state.

According to an official associated with the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, the move aims to fix accountability among state employees and ensure that no government employee remains a duplicate voter. The official added that furnishing false information in the declaration could invite legal action against the concerned employee.
