Chennai, 31 January (H.S.) : Popular child actor Ashwanth Ashokkumar has released a poignant video on social media expressing his profound disappointment after failing to secure a Tamil Nadu State Film Award in the recently announced list.
The young performer, who has gained widespread acclaim for his natural acting abilities, shared his heartbreak over being overlooked for his significant contributions to cinema over the past few years.
In the viral clip, Ashwanth revealed that he had high expectations that his performances would be recognized by the state government, particularly for his roles that resonated with audiences and critics alike.
Ashwanth specifically highlighted his memorable performance as Rasukutty in the 2019 film Super Deluxe, noting his confidence that the role deserved a State award. He expressed further dismay that his later work in the 2022 film My Dear Bootham was also ignored by the selection committee.
Questioning the transparency of the selection process, the child artist asked why an artist should put in so much effort if there is no official recognition, labeling the exclusion as an injustice. He candidly questioned whether the jury members had even watched the films in which he delivered these notable performances.
Responding to the viral video, several industry members and fans have offered their support to the young actor. While the Tamil Nadu State Film Award committee has not issued an official rebuttal to his specific claims, film fraternity sources suggest that the selection process is highly competitive with numerous talented performers vying for limited slots.
Ashwanth, who debuted in Sandakozhi 2, continues to be regarded as one of the most promising young talents in the Tamil film industry despite this recent setback in official recognition.
