Chennai, 31 January (H.S.) : The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has stated that industrialists across Tamil Nadu are expressing significant confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government following the landmark India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
In a detailed statement released on Saturday, Palaniswami noted that numerous industry representatives from major hubs, including Erode, Tiruppur, and Coimbatore, reached out to him to share their enthusiasm regarding the potential economic benefits. He emphasized that the trade deal is expected to provide a substantial boost to the manufacturing and textile sectors, which are vital to the regional economy.
The AIADMK leader praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his decisive leadership in finalizing what he termed the mother of all deals during the recent India-EU Summit. According to Palaniswami, the agreement will create a robust, trade-friendly ecosystem that will significantly enhance exports from the state.
He further asserted that a future AIADMK administration in Tamil Nadu would effectively complement these central initiatives by fostering a conducive environment for industrial growth and global trade partnerships. The FTA is seen as a strategic move to strengthen bilateral ties and expand market access for Indian goods.
Official data highlights the importance of this partnership, as the European Union remains one of India's largest trading entities. In the 2024-25 fiscal year, bilateral trade in goods reached eleven point five lakh crore rupees, with Indian exports accounting for six point four lakh crore rupees.
Palaniswami reiterated that such growth-oriented reforms are essential for the state’s progress and indicated that the industry's positive response reflects a broader trust in the current alliance's economic vision for the upcoming assembly elections.
