New Delhi, 20 January (H.S.): The Geological Survey of India (GSI) under the Ministry of Mines will host the 65th Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB) meeting on Wednesday, January 21, at A.P. Shinde Symposium Hall, ICAR Pusa, uniting central ministries, state governments, industry leaders, academia, and mining stakeholders to shape geoscientific priorities.

Chaired by Mines Secretary Piyush Goyal, with GSI Director General Asit Saha and Additional Secretary Sanjay Lohiya, the forum finalizes GSI's Annual Field Season Programme (FSP) for 2026-27—featuring 1,068 peer-reviewed projects emphasizing mineral exploration, AI/ML data integration, geophysical surveys, hyperspectral remote sensing, deep drilling, and mineral system studies.

Discussions target critical minerals like lithium, rare earth elements, graphite, PGE, vanadium, scandium, and cesium to fuel energy transition and Atmanirbhar Bharat, alongside landslide hazard zonation for Himalayan and northeastern states, pre-competitive data sharing, and collaborative models to fast-track auction-ready blocks.

The agenda highlights offshore exploration, carbon sequestration, and public-good geosciences, culminating in key GSI publication releases and an exhibition on strategic mineral initiatives.
