New Delhi, 20 January (H.S.): Top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders convened at the party headquarters on Tuesday, January 20, ahead of Nitin Nabin's formal assumption of duties as the organisation's new national president, marking a generational shift at age 45.
Elected unopposed on Monday, following nominations backed by 37 valid sets proposed by heavyweights including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, JP Nadda, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari—Nabin succeeds Nadda, who has steered the party since 2020.
Returning officer K. Laxman confirmed the sole candidacy after scrutiny, with the official handover scheduled between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. today.
A five-term MLA from Bihar and former state minister for law, urban development, and housing, Nabin was elevated to working president in December 2025. This transition underscores BJP's focus on organisational vigour and youth infusion ahead of state polls in Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh, plus the 2029 Lok Sabha battle, contrasting rivals like Congress under elder leadership.
